Friday Face Off: Gadgets and airships

Friday Face Off

The Friday Face-Off was originally created by Books by Proxy:
each Friday, bloggers showcase book covers on a weekly theme.

This week, the theme is “Gadgets and airships

The gadget that came to mind right away in combination with airships is the Babel fish: a tiny yellow fish placed in Arthur’s ear so he could understand the Vogon speech. Of course you have recognized which book I’m talking about:

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Face off Gadget

My favorite is the Masterworks edition, I think.
This was a difficult choice, they are all so very different. I prefer this one because of the artistic use of colors.

Featuring this book gives me the desire to try it again. I DNFed it a few years ago, and can’t even remember why. I have the feeling I would enjoy it more now.

This week, the theme is “murder mystery in space”

I can actually only think of one book, which I really enjoyed:
Solaris, by Stanisław Lem.
And I guess whether there’s a murder or not depends on your interpretation.

Faceoff Solaris

Just like last Friday, there’s a huge diversity of covers. From now on, I have decided to stop at 15 though.
Some here look weird, as if the artist had not even read the book (#11).
I think #4 doesn’t reveal much.
My favorite is #10 (Spanish edition) for the quality of the art, and the closeness to one important idea of the book.

I loved a lot Klara and the Sun, so when I realized the Virtual Crime Book Club hosted by Rebecca Bradley,  was going to read Constance, another novel focusing on AI, I decided to join.
It was a great discussion, with 16 members present, and the author himself came for a while!
Let me tell you why you might want to try this novel.
