Book review: The Travelers

The TravelersThe Travelers

I’m always weary of the hype. So last year, when everyone was talking about The Travelers, I ignored it. But as the hype has been going on, and I had a new opportunity to try it, I dared. And I’m glad I did. I had not read a spy novel for a while, and it was worth the time.

2017: June wrap-up

June 2017 wrap-up

Another ouch to start this recap!
I did take one week off hiking and birding (so not much reading that week), and total internet disconnect, but it does not explain why nothing has been happening on this blog for two weeks. It’s getting hard these days to take time to write reviews at the end of a full day of teaching and translating. Then I want to be away from the computer, and just dive into a book. Conclusion: reviews do not get written…

Here is what I read this past month:

6  books:
4 in print
with 1,486 pages, that is: 49.5 pages/day – the lowest month this year
+ 2 audiobooks
with 13H06, that is: 26 mn/day

3 in mystery:

  1. The Valley of Fear, by Arthur Conan Doyle – audiobook
  2. His Last Bow, by Arthur Conan Doyle – audiobook
  3. The Travelers, by Chris Pavone
  4. The Nature of the Beast, by Louise Penny – ebook

1 in literary fiction:

  1. The Little Paris Bookshop, by Nina George – ebook

1 in nonfiction:

  1. The Typikon Decoded, by Job Gretcha

My favorites in June

The Travelers  The Nature of the Beast

A few notes:

  1. Just a few stories left in the very last book of Sherlock Holmes in audio!

  2. The Travelers: finally read. Loved it, great spy novel. I had not read in that genre for a while

  3. The Nature of the Beast: finishing the last 2 I had not read yet by Louise Penny, to be ready for her latest, coming out in August

  4. The Little Paris Bookshop: a few nice lines on books and reading, but overall very disappointing

  5. The Typikon Decoded: about Orthodox liturgy

Blog recap in June

  • I participated in Armchair Book Expo! I won the major prize, but as I already won a few years ago, with similar themes, like banners, etc., for the site, I let it for another blogger. I’m very happy with the France Book Tours banners I got then

  • I organized 2 giveaways. The one for July at France Book Tours is now available. An awesome Paris memoir, quite unique!

  • I hosted a guest-post

  • and I managed to do 2 videos, on 3 great books!
