Year of reading 2022
Part 1
My top 22 books
To follow my tradition, here is part 1 of my yearly recap.
There is a total of 3 parts:
- my favorite books, with my usual categories, see here below
- my stats
- my fun list with titles
2022 was a great year, with 41% of 5 stars rating (58 out of 140 books).
As usual, the final choice here below is based on the quality of the book, on how it resonated with me and my own experience, and on how it stayed with me.
I have added the 3 formats for the scifi category, as I read more of that genre this year.

BOOK COVER
Only 2 French this year in these top titles, and 3 Japanese books.
And 36% are classics!
Out of these 22, it’s really hard to spot THE winner. If I had absolutely to choose, I might go with The Bride Wore Black, for being a major unexpected discovery for me, of a really brilliant author. But I equally enjoyed all the above!

Happy New year to you! I don’t have any books in common. The Bride Wore Black is such a good title

Sadly none – apart from the T H White, which I last read eons ago – overlap with what I’ve completed, but a couple or so do tempt, the Tom Gauld in particular!

Yes, Tom Gauld’s is so good!

Glad some of your favourite reads are classic crime titles, in particular the book by Cornell Woolrich. What classic crime fiction do you think you might try in 2023?

More Cornwell, Berkeley, Sout, Tey. Planning to try Freeman Wills Crofts, Brian Flynn, Patricia Wentworth, Dashiell Hammett, John Dickson Carr, among others. See my list here. I have been looking at the list and it was great to see many classic crime books I had read and enjoyed. You have a lot to look forward to!

I don’t think, I’ve read a single one of your favourites. Another book by Haruf (Our Souls at Night) is on my wish list though and I have high hopes for it. Maybe a 2023 favourite ?

I haven’t read it, but it sounds very good, and sad too!

Stuart Little, The Night Gardener, Revenge of the Librarians, Beginning To Pray, sound good to me.

It’s been years since I read Plainsong and Eventide but I still remember how much I loved them both.
I always have to look up Jamaica Inn to see if I’ve read it. I haven’t. I think I have it permanently confused with My Cousin Rachel. I should go ahead and read it sometime. I do like du Maurier a lot.
I distinctly remember my third grade teacher’s assistant reading Stuart Little and many other books to us after lunch. That was not my favorite schoolyear because I thought she and my teacher were too strict and wouldn’t let us have fun, but in retrospect, maybe it was just the teacher. I should have clicked with someone who made the effort to read to us daily.
I hope you read even more new favorites in 2023!

Yes, Haruf was a great author.
You really need to read Jamaica Inn, more gothic than My Cousin Rachel, I think it comes second for me right after Rebecca.
That was neat indeed that your teacher would read you Stuart Little!
I hope you are reading great books this year as well
