The Friday Face-Off was originally created by Books by Proxy:
each Friday, bloggers showcase book covers on a weekly theme.

This week, the theme is
“Off the TBR“
So I’m featuring the latest book I have added to my TBR.
First, why did I add this book?
Because I just finished Confessions, another book by the same author Kanae Minato. I was very impressed by the writing and plot in this psychological thriller – very smart twists and turns like many Japanese authors are so good at (I’m thinking of Higashino, for instance).
This one seems to be displaying the same qualities:

I haven’t read this book, so some covers are hard to understand.
I’ll go with the art itself, and my favorite is the Chinese edition.
Have you read this book?
WHICH COVER IS YOUR FAVORITE? WHY?
My next participation may be on Friday, July 29:
“Gigantic”
I have always wanted to read these two books by her, glad to see you liked them.

I have yet to read Penance, but I have the feeling it will work well for me as well

First, I’m adding this to my TBR because it sounds so good. And I love the Mulholland cover, it’s simple and seems to suggest this will be a tense and emotional story. Great choice!

Have you read Confessions? I would start with that one, so so good!

On the basis of the cover alone giving you an insight into the book’s contents, I’d probably go for the one you highlight.

It will be interesting to see if my choice remains the same once I read the book

The Mulholland cover wouldn’t be acceptable in Japan (or in many other parts of Asia) where to show only part of a face is considered disrespectful

Very interesting, I didn’t know that, thanks!

I learned that from my work colleagues in Asia when I showed them a design for a new advertising campaign!

All the covers for this book catcher a tense feel. Even the one with the strawberries. Red is a tense color.
