I’ve read a few of these – Ficciones, Morel, Christmas Pudding and Thirteenth Tale. All are good, and the first three outstanding!

Borges is one of my favorite authors but I’ve not read his Ficciones, I’m going to have to look it up. And I remember you mentioning Satanic Verses before for a read along in November, might join you if I’m able to get over my reading blues by then!
LikeLike
I used to love Borges a lot as a teen, high time to revisit him!
Oh oh, reading blues! Not sure if Rushdie’s big book will help. I hope you soon find something fun to help you
LikeLike
Haha, that’s true! Rushdie is unlikely to help out with the blues (rhyming intended)….

I have not posted it but yes that’s a great idea! Currently I am reading Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri! ❤

I may try this one. As a translator myself, and expat, and bilingual, I so much enjoyed In Other Words. I speak about it, with parallels to my own experience: https://wordsandpeace.com/2016/05/18/book-review-in-other-words/

Hey this one was really nice to read! I read it throughout about In Other Words, though I haven’t read the book! My current read is my first one from Lahiri!
Anyway, happy reading! 🙂

I love Les Miserables but I have not heard of those audio books. Here is my post-https://paigesofbook.blogspot.com/2021/09/top-ten-tuesday-fall-tbr.html.

If you love Les Misérables, you should try this one by Eugène Sue. This audiobook is in French. But his work has translated, as The Mysteries of Paris, see for instance here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/630983.The_Mysteries_of_Paris

Great list! I have to look into that Neil Stephenson book—my late husband
LOVED him.

You need lots of patience with this upcoming one by Neal Stephenson. Not much happening for 400 pages… Some say this is not his best

Nice list, as always, Emma. I’ve read “The Thirteenth Tale” and will, of course, read “The Satanic Verses” with you. Really looking forward to it.
Thanks for visiting my TTT earlier.

It was alright. I described it as a “nice read even though I wouldn’t call it great literature” in my review.

I’d forgotten about The Thirteenth Tale but have just added it to my “to buy/borrow” list because I loved her more recent book Once Upon A River

I read Young Men and Fire by McClean and loved it. I’d definitely read another by him. Also read Midnight’s Children, by Rushdie. Can’t say the same about his writing. I appreciate his eloquence but I didn’t enjoy the story a bit.
LikeLike
Funny, in the story I read, he insists on being Maclean, and not McClean!! I like Rushdie’s mind and style in nonfiction, so we’ll see how this goes here. Though I did enjoy a lot Quichotte

Oh! Thanks for clearing that up, regarding Mc vs Mac. 🙂

And he is adamant on not using a capital letter in the middle either, lol

Great list. I have only read The Thirteenth Tale and loved it. I have had Rushdie’s book on my shelves for many years. Now it pops ut here and there, so maybe finally time to read it.

Looking forward to your input. A difficult work, but major, by one of the brightness minds of our time I believe
