JULY 2021 WRAP-UP
My #20BooksofSummer21 is doing well. In fact, I have already read 21 books, but only 5 from my original list (and I had to DNF one from that list). Hopefully, I can read from this list by the end of August.
And actually, most important for me, I have managed to catch up with a few reviews (see links below), on books I received for review in 2019-2021, that I read and even enjoyed a lot, but never took time to review!! I still have 5 books to review that I read last year, and I hope I can catch up with those during this last month of Summer.
July has my best statistics for 2021 so far, as for number of pages read per day.
📚 Here is what I read in July:
14 books:
10 in print
= with 2,634 pages, a daily average of 84 pages/day
4 in audio
= 24H54, a daily average of 52 minutes
5 in mystery:
- Evil Under the Sun (Hercule Poirot #24), by Agatha Christie
- Five Little Pigs (Hercule Poirot #25), by Agatha Christie
- The Hollow, (Hercule Poirot #26), by Agatha Christie – these first 3 were as audiobooks, for The Classics Club
- Impact, by Olivier Norek – French audiobook
- When All Light Fails, by Randall Silvis – ebook received for review
4 in nonfiction:
- The Code Breaker, by Walter Isaacson – won through Goodreads
- Languages of Truth, by Salman Rushdie – ebook received for review
- Living With a Dead Language, by Ann Patty
- Sur la lecture [On Reading], by Marcel Proust – for The Classics Club
2 in poetry:
- The Lost Spells, by Robert MacFarlane & Jackie Morris
- Alphabet, by Paul Valéry – French poetry in prose – for The Classics Club
2 as graphic novels:
- The Apothecary Diaries, vol.2, by Natsu Hyuuga – manga, historical novel, for the Books in Translation Challenge

Thanks Nicole!
Thanks for mentioning me. 🙂 Looks like you managed to read quite a lot. I didn’t realize Lost Spells was poetry — that cover fooled me into thinking it was middle grade SFF. Going to check that out, thanks for reviewing it on GoodReads.

Looks like you got lots of reading in! I am also attempting to read Christie’s Poirot books in order. I really do need to check out The Classics Club. Thanks for reminding me🙂.
Have a good August!

Yes, The Classics Club is a great place to be. You can make your own list of classics TBR. You can find lots of great ideas from others’ lists. And then a few times a year there’s the fun Spin. You choose 20 classics from your own longer list, and a number is chosen at random. Then you get a couple of months to read that classic. Always fun to see what others are reading.
Have you tried Poirot in audio? Hugh Fraser is a fabulous narrator

Thanks for the info about Classics Club. I plan to check it out. I have not tried Poirot in audio, but that sounds like a fabulous idea!

I’ll have to look up The Code Breaker. I watched a Netflix documentary about gene editing and then wanted to know everything about it. I hope you have a great August!

So then yes, that’s the perfect book!

Oh Hercule Poirot. I really need to try to read those books as well!

Highly recommended in audio. Most of them are available with Hugh Fraser as narrator, the best narrator for these (actually better than Suchet, though Suchet is my favorite Poirot as actor)

Great reading month and review month for you! I haven’t read any of these. My July has been filled with ARCs that the publishers surprised me with and so far, I’ve loved every one of them. The Ghost of Midnight Lake (historical MG) and Concealed (MG thriller/mystery) both received 5 stars and were difficult to put down.

Thanks for sharing, I haven’t read MG for a while. Enjoy the end of summer!
