January 2021 WRAP-UP
I can’t believe it’s already time for the first wrap up of the year!
End of January and beginning of February usually mean more snow in Chicagoland, and this is definitely happening, with 8 inches in 24 hours at my place.
So let’s go back under the covers and read!
I have been starting slow as for number of pages, but I am happy with these stats, and also with the fact that I have almost reviewed all the titles I meant to review. Doing short reviews for the Sunday Post has been helping a lot.
📚 So here is what I read in January:
13 books:
8 in print
= with 1,728 pages, a daily average of 55 pages/day
5 in audio
= 26H22, a daily average of 51 minutes
4 in literary fiction:
- Les grands cerfs, by Claudie Hunzinger – French ebook for review
- The Sound of Waves, by Yukio Mishima – for The Classics Club, the Japanese Reading Challenge 14, and the Books in Translation Challenge
- Some Prefer Nettles, by Junichiro Tanizaki – for The Classics Club, the Japanese Reading Challenge 14, and the Books in Translation Challenge
- NP, by Banana Yoshimoto – for the Japanese Reading Challenge 14, and the Books in Translation Challenge
4 in mystery:
- Death in the Clouds (Hercule Poirot #12), by Agatha Christie – audiobook, for The Classics Club
- The ABC Murders (Hercule Poirot #13), by Agatha Christie – audiobook, for The Classics Club
- C’est arrivé la nuit, by Marc Levy – French audiobook
- Stone Killer, by Dennis M. Day
3 in nonfiction:
- The Book of Psalms – audiobook, for The Classics Club
- The Book of Job – audiobook, for The Classics Club
- The Romanov Sisters, by Helen Rappaport
1 in science-fiction:
- The Night Masquerade, by Nnedi Okorafor
1 in historical fiction:
- Gaspard, by Dennis M. Day – short story project by a friend

I quit doing long reviews and only do short ones for my Sunday Posts now. That was a massive relief that makes blogging less stressful. I was always way behind with writing reviews. Have a great February!

Great way to go, though I need do some longer ones for boo tours. I also took lots of notes on some classics, so I’d like to share

I like the look of Stone Killer! Now that we’ve had the snow, my app says it is going to get really really cold. Yikes- but expected this is Chicago!

Yes, normal around here. If you are in Chicago, you definitely need to read Stone Killer!

That’s a fantastic wrap-up, Emma. I was just telling Earl that I need to do a better job of keeping track of my reading (outside of Goodreads tags). So this is inspiring! Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a wonderful reading week!

Shaye, fill free to copy my chart and edit it as you wish: https://bit.ly/36yltt1. See How I edit it after each book I read, so then totals are very easy to see at the end of each month and year. Enjoy your week as well. Feel free to use my post format as well

Seems like a good January for reading, quite impressive. I am also quite pleased with it. I managed 12 books. I hope February will continue to see a good number of reads for me. I hope February will continue as good for us.

I like this idea of doing an accounting of my reading life. (I might not get quite so detailed as you though) Thanks for sharing today.

if you make a chart (like here shorturl.at/kuCRV, feel free to copy), then it’s easy to edit fter each book you finish, and at the end of your month/year, numbers are easy to see

Some good J-Lit choices there, although I would have gone for the Tanizaki over the Mishima 🙂

Content wise maybe, but I preferred the writing style of this one by Mishima. Thanks for stopping by!

Thirteen books is awesome! You are getting more snow than we are here in the mitten state, but we are sharing these freezing temps lately. I have been practicing my Japanese again and was pleased when we went to the local Japanese market and can read the hiragana and katakana on the labels. I hope your February is going well!

Great wrap-up. I’d love to sum up the month. If only each month would end on a Sunday…that would help me so much!
