Once again, 746books.com organized a special challenge:
20 Books of Summer
June 1-August 31
Summer is already over so it’s time to see how it went for this challenge.
I’m happy with the amount of books I read:
I reached 20 books on July 28, and ended up reading 28 books.
These were not necessarily the 20 I had lined up, I had to adjust to urgent books coming my way for review.
Unfortunately, I only reviewed 6 of these.
And I was planning to connect with participants of this challenge, which I didn’t do much at all, by lack of time.
Out of these 28, 15 books were in print, and 13 in audio (6 of these were Bible books)
12 were mysteries/thrillers
Books I especially liked?:
scratch that, there are too many!!
I will just highlight four books that were different, types of revelations:
Or What You Will:
An amazing author, totally new to me.
Great structure, so many references
VERDICT: Unique fantasy love letter to the Renaissance. Luscious!

If You Cross The River:
I got this in 2019, why did I wait so long to read it?
Incredible writing. I devoured it in no time
Migrations:
wow, certainly one of my favorites of the year so far.
VERDICT: Both beautiful and heart-wrenching. And of course, a must for all birders.

Killer, Come Back to Me
BIG revelation, I didn’t even know he had written crime fiction. Did you?
And he is so so good at it!
So here is the file with my 28 books.
Did you participate?
What was your favorite book this Summer?
I did join in. For pure reading pleasure, I’d say that my favorite was The Readers’ Room, followed by Memory Police. I enjoyed Migrations very much, too, but I read it before summer began. I wish I had connected more with the other members of the challenge. Next year, maybe.

I read The Memory Police last year, so loved it. I have to start The Readers’ Room soon, to write my review in time

I love Jo Walton and must read more of her books. I have Migrations as a library
ebook right now! Congrats on doing so well with the challenge!

Nope, I didn’t know Bradbury had done crime either.
Well done on reading so many titles – I managed 15 which is more than I expected though like you I am behind on the reviews….

Now, I’m curious about his novels in that genre

Well done! I ended up reading 43 books over the three months and all the books on my list with a few swaps. So I was pleased with that – I don’t always manage it.

Well, thanks for pointing me to the outstanding books in your summer reading! The Jo Walton I’m now desperate to read, having cast around for something else of hers to enjoy after Among Others. Migrations too sounds as though I’d like it, while I also was another one who didn’t know Bradbury wrote crime fiction. A worthy haul, well done! 🙂

I have to say, these are all amazing books, would love to know your thoughts when you get to them. And now I need to read more by Walton! So I’m going to check Among Others

Apart from its many other wonderful themes Among Others is set in and around the Welsh valleys and the Welsh Marches near where I live, but it’s very much worth a read for loads of other reasons! https://wp.me/s2oNj1-genii
