The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized
by Amanda Shofner and Kelly Rubidoux Apple.
It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 6th
and runs through Sunday, January 12th in whatever time zone you are in.
Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, Twitter chats, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional.
For all Bout of Books 27 information and updates,
be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team
I’m hesitating about doing Bout of Books this time, because my Church follows the Julian calendar. Hence, I will have a three hour Vigils prayer service on January 6 to prepare for the Feast of the Nativity of Christ, aka as Christmas. And Church again on the morning of the 7th for Nativity Divine Liturgy (aka as Mass by the Roman Catholics), and a big party on the evening of January 7th. So I’ll basically won’t be able to read on the 6th and 7th.
So I’m lowering my goal to 575 pages.
And I will organize a giveaway!
Here are the books I plan to read from. Some I’m currently reading.
- Theological Territories, by David Bentley Hart
- Sanshiro, by Natsume Soseki
- The Ten Loves of Mr Nishino, by Hiromi Kawakami
- Audiobook: The Book of Tea, by Kakuzo Hokakura
- Audiobook: The Book of Genesis
- Audiobook: The Red House Mystery, by A. A. Milne

Oh, but the neat thing with Bout of Books, is that you set your own goal, it can be anything, and not necessarily in number of pages

Thanks, but I think that until I retire (this summer), I’m going to hold back on the challenges, and this one falls right in the middle of a trip abroad combined with a very heavy season at work.

Retirement, how exciting! Good to know you are in that generation too. So many book bloggers could be my daughters or grand-daughters!! Can’t wait to hear about your retirement reading plans

I already put my Goodreads challenge to 40 (up from my usual starting point of 30), so there’s that!
