CURRENTLY READING
Elder Leonid of Optina
I have a devotion to the Optina Fathers. This is book 1 in the series, as Father Leonid is the one who revived the practice of eldership in that monastery and made it blossom again.
Quichotte
Having just finished reading Don Quixote, I couldn’t resist but jump on the opportunity to read this one, especially as I hadn’t yet read any book by Salman Rushdie.
Into The Night
I just discovered Sarah Bailey, thanks to a blogger’s recommendation. Having read and joyed The Dark Lake, I want to read next one in the series.
READING NEXT
Secret Agent Brainteasers
I requested several books in the Spring, but never got a chance to read them because of all my readings for MBI2019. So I’m trying to catch up. This one sounds really fun, and I should be able to finally read it this month.
Civilizations
I just realized Laurent Binet has a new book out. I enjoyed so much The Seventh Function of Language and HHhH!
La grande escapade
Bondel is another author I have recently enjoyed, with The 6:41 to Paris, and Exposed.
CURRENT AND NEXT AUDIOBOOKS
Solaris
I recently watched the movie, and then realized it was on my classic list.
I found an excellent audiobook recording on youtube. Did you know there are more and more audiobooks there? The narrator is so good at doing Snaut, just as maniac as the actor in the movie.
Now, this is the big announcement: Solaris is my 50th classic, to be done with my first list of 50 titles for Classics Club! I actually read them not in 5 years as requested, but in 4!
I can’t wait to show you my new list of 50 titles. Yes, of course I’m going to start a second list!
Childhood’s End
Another classic scifi. It’s actually on my list of alternates for my 2nd list of 50 classics for Classics Club.

I only listened to Midnight’s Children, but he’s that bombastic, great storyteller, full of culture, color, an assault to the senses, and deep. It seems the one an only fit for the ambitious task of taking Don Quixote to a modern spin.
I am going to get this for my birthday in January!

Oh Theresa, are you the one who recently mentioned her to me? I’ll review both books together, and I’d like to give you credit for introducing her to me. Thanks!

I also like the idea of Quichotte. Saw an interview with him about it. Sounds like a kind of follow up to The Golden House.

hmm, I have to look into The Golden House then. It could be similar themes, but it’s fascinating how he integrates Don Quixote’story, and several other big classics!

Not exactly similar themes, just a kind of wishful thinking of the downfall of a powerful, wealthy family. But it takes place around the 2016 elections and he makes Trump into an evil clown!
