Introduce Yourself #insixwords
In case you have not seen it, come this way - I posted a book giveaway
- I took part in the crazy chat. There were some new questions. I enjoyed the question about some 2017 goals we had not shared with anyone else before, and was amazed by the honesty of the participants. It was also sad to see that many people are struggling against depression. Book blogging is closer to my prayer life than you would imagine!
NOTES:
- Considering I spent 1 hour in the chat, plus an extra 25 mn to go through Twitter notifications received during the chat, to follow other bloggers and share spreadsheets with them, I am super happy with this result of 103 pages for day 1!
My challenge is to read 490 pages (average of 70 pages/day).
According to my 2016 stats, I read an average of 68 pages per day throughout 2016, so I would like to challenge myself to do a tiny bit more that first week of 2017!
Not counting some time for audiobooks as well.
It’s going to be tough, as I actually celebrate the Nativity with my Church Friday night and Saturday – I’m Russian Orthodox, and we follow the Julian Calendar, so Christmas in on January 7.
What will I be reading from:
-
The Great and the Good, by Michel Déon – French literature in translation, for review – BOOK FINISHED
-
The World Between Two Covers, by Ann Morgan – nonfiction, for review – reading
-
The Shadow of the Cross, by Dmitry Yakhovsky – historical fiction, ebook for review – BOOK FINISHED
-
Two Days Gone, by Randall Silvis – mystery, received at BEA 16, for review
-
Death Comes for the Archbishop, by Willa Cather – Classic Club, ebook – reading
-
Highland Storm, by Tanya Anne Crosby – historical romance, ebook, currently translating into French
-
The Typikon Decoded, by Job Gretcha – nonfiction, Orthodoxy – reading
-

it really all depends what books you reading. I think it worked great for me last time

Wow! You are making some great progress here. I recently read The Screwtape Letters and I really enjoyed it. What do you think of the audiobook?

OMG, just finished it, what an amazing book, so relevant today! Even though I have it in print, I decided to listen to it, because it’s narrated by the awesome Ralph Cosham. I’m a bit fan of him, discovered through Louise Penny’s series on Armand Gamache. Too bad he died recently. I always did a few minutes to forget I’m not listening to “Armand Gamache”, but after that, it’s great. He is now my favorite narrator.
I won’t be able to read much tonight – long Church service for our Christmas, finally – our calendar is 13 days late on the modern calendar

As a good Jew, I understand the displacement between the Julian calendar and other religious calendars.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I didn’t realize Cosham died– I’ll need to listen to more of his narrations soon then. In homage.

lol, for the calendars!!
yes, the last 2 audiobooks in the Armand Gamache series by Louise Penny are by another narrator, after he passed away. So I will actually no longer listen, but read her books. The new narrators don’t seem to fit the voice of the character for me

I have definitely given up on series because the narrator changed. It was too jarring for me.

yes, especially when you already have listened to like 10 of them! Plus really Armand Gamache is a very quiet man, he loves listening, watching, very contemplative. The new narrators speak too fast for his character, and their tone of voice is somewhat violent, for me, this does not fit with his character
