I loved The Martian Chronicles! The first few stories were good but I couldn’t quite see why the book has such a reputation as a great classic. But as it went on the stories got better and better, and some of the later ones are simply wonderful! I hope you enjoy it 🙂

ah ah the eternal question: what makes a book a classic? I really enjoy it very much, plus the narrator Mark Boyett is fantastic

I’m still waiting for the Commonwealth to come to me in the library. Not long to go it seems. Lucky you for jetting it at BEA. I’ve not read Ursula Le Guin. Is she a fantasy author?

I have not read any by her yet, but she’s really a classic here, she’s 86. American author of novels, children’s books, and short stories, mainly in the genres of fantasy and science fiction. She has also written poetry and essays.
I’m at page 121 in Commonwealth, and sorry to say I’m disappoited so far, compare to Bel Canto or State of Wonder. Probably because of the theme, I don’t enjoy much family stuff

That’s a shame – I read Bel Canto earlier this year and was wowed by it

me too! But wait, that’s probably just me, most of the reviews on Goodreads are very positive, average over 4.00. One reader seems to have highlighted very well what I’m not liking, but I always have problems with books on family stuff and it’s all family stuff in this one

I have challenges with multi-generational family sagas.

if you are referring to Commonwealth, I had to. I just finished it and was so so disappointed. But I enjoyed very much One Hundred Years of Solitude, so I don’t have anything against the genre per se. It just needs to be really well done, and well written, lol!!

I used to read a lot of Bradbury…hope you enjoy, and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is very poignant. I’m intrigued by The Other Einstein (mostly because I am always intrigued by THE Einstein). I’ll have to watch for your review.

I heard Ann Patchett recently do a reading and Q & A with readers at our Barnes & Noble. I will be reading Commonwealth too.
I read The Wizard of Earthsea this summer for the first time and enjoyed it very much, deftly written and a pleasant surprise.

I can’t wait to being The Wizard of Earthsea.
I’m totally dragging my feet with Commonwealth, I’m so disappointed, but because i got it at BEA, I feel obliged to finish it. I heard her talk live online when Bel Canto had its premiere as opera in Chicago. I enjoyed her talk very much, I admire what she did to open a bookstore in her city, and enjoyed so much Bel Canto and State of Wonder. but this one…
