Mailbox Monday and WWW Wednesdays
The week started with special events, let’s say, with a problem on my wifi which led me to eventually reset my computer to factory settings!! If you have no idea what I’m talking about, consider yourself fortunate. I wasted my day on that, and missed meeting another French Emma book blogger coming to Chicago! That would have been super to meet: how often can you put together 2 French book bloggers called Emma in the US?
I was able to reinstall everything, and am in the process of reinstalling all my files. In the process though, I lost most of my favorites, and there were tons of references for material for the French classes I give online. C’est la vie!
I was dreading Monday, with the necessity to go for my 1st appointment to renew my French passport, but that went surprisingly smoothly and fast, less than 10 mn, in a manner more casual and easy going than if I had been in France!
Wednesday was the beloved Feast of the Transfiguration – I’m Christian Orthodox, and this is my favorite feast ever.
BOOKS READ
- Midnight in Europe, by Alan Furst. Audiobook received from Simon & Schuster. A spy novel at the eve of WWII. A bit on the slow side, but good historical background
- The Wharf of Chartrons, by Jen-Paul Malaval. A historical novel set around 1914 snf about Bordeaux wine. Part of a virtual book tour at France Book Tours, starting this Tuesday, with a great giveaway! My review is scheduled for 8/16
CURRENTLY READING
- Madame Picasso, by Anne Girard, for Historical Fiction Virtual Book Tours. Review scheduled for 8/28
- Mrs. Pollifax Unveiled, by Dorothy Gilman. Audio. This is #14 and last of the series. So sad this is the last one. I enjoyed so much this series and its amazing narrator Barbara Rosenblat. In this one Mrs. Pollifax goes to Syria.
- Toi qui as soif de bonheur, by Jean-Pierre Longeat. French spirituality book received for review for Collectanea Cisterciensia
BOOKS UP NEXT
- Probably The Ashes of Heaven’s Pillar, by Kim Rendfeld. Historical fiction at the time of Charlemagne. received for the author. I enjoyed very much her previous book The Cross And The Dragon. Review scheduled for 9/1.
- The latest book by Murakami!
LAST WEEK ON THE BLOG
- Review: France on the Brink, by Jonathan Fenby, an amazingly good analysis of the current social and economic situation in France
- Review: Moon in a Dead Eye, by Pascal Garnier. A mystery quite à la French
- Review: Au revoir là-haut, by Pierre Lemaitre. Great historical novel on WWI, that won Le Prix Goncourt in 2013. My review was originally written for the Historical Novel Society Magazine, August 2014 issue, in which they commemorate the anniversary of WWI.
- I finally decided to leave WordPress Ads and launched my own Ads program, focusing on, guess what, French products. Spread the news if you know any one selling French products, services, etc! The ADS will appear on both Words And Peace and France Book Tours!

You have some wonderful titles this week. I am glad the passport renewal was easy especially after the laptop trouble. I have been there, done that and it was awful. Have an amazing week!

What a great week for you. Lots of books read and things accomplished for you.
I love Louise Penny’s books. I haven’t read A Fatal Grace.
Lies Told in Silence is definitely catching my eye. is that the same author who wrote Unravelled? It looks like her style.
ENJOY your week and your reading.
