Colorado Book Month

As you know, I plan to visit as many States as possible in 2013, well, through books.
I was going to follow the order of the statehood, but just discovered March 2013 is Colorado Book Month.

So now I need your help:

which book set in Colorado would you recommend, and why?

Any format will do, any genre, except Romance, and probably not YA either.

Right now, I’m thinking about Kent Haruf – set in Colorado, by a Colorado author. Do you prefer Plainsong or Eventide?

Thanks for all your ideas!

Thanks for those who sent me input. I ended up reading Plainsong, by Kent Haruf. Very good book.

  1. I didn’t care for Plainsong, though I haven’t read Eventide. If you don’t mind horror, both The Shining and a large portion of The Stand by Stephen King are set here (I live in Denver). Of the two, The Stand is my favorite.

  2. I did a trip around in the USA last summer (in books) and I made the following list for Colorado: One Breath Away by Heather Gudenkauf; You Remind Me of Me by Dan Chaon; In Cold Blood by Truman Capote; The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks; On the Road to Mr Right by Belinda Jones.

I read the first 2 and the last one. One Breath Away was an OK read, not as strong as I had hoped. You Remind Me of Me is a good contemporary novel that you might like, too. On the Road to Mr Right is a very light chick-lit, I don’t recommend it. 🙂

    Good luck!
